Hi, just lately our fish(gold fish), which are a couple of years old, have been going up to the surface alot and sucking up the air, which is a sign of lack of oxygen and have been swimming around on there backs. I'm not exactly emotionally attatched to all of them but it would be rather sad to see them die. We gave them fresh clean water when we noticed it but it hasn't made any difference and they have a filter and bubbles etc. Also it's been happening for about 4 days. Please help!! This could be a swim bladder disorder, or gas. Try feeding your fish shelled peas.
How large is the tank?
when you cleaned the tank did you put start right in it???
Tap water holds a lot of stuff in it especially if you're using city water. They dump in floride, chlorine, etc. The water should be sitting in a large bucket at least overnight before being added to the tank, to let the chemicals evaporate off. It needs surface area to do so, so don't just fill up empty milk jugs with water, the small hole on top won't let the chemicals disperse.
