Pregnancy Diet | The Diet Channel:: from TheDietChannel: Prenatal Vitamins: Why Pregnant Women Should Take Them. Foods to avoid during pregnancy. There are also certain foods that should be avoided. http://www.thedietchannel.com/Pregnancy-diet.htmHOME | I recently found out im about 4 months pregnant.
i have abnormal periods so not getting my period wasn't anything new to me, i was on birthcontrol, and i wasn't ever really feeling sick or anything.
So now I'm worried about the health of my baby -- i can't see the dr for another couple weeks.
Has anyone else not taken prenatal vitamins for this long? And did your baby turn out healthy?
thanks so much :)
I haven't taken any with any of my pregnancys and I have three healthy kids. Kids at birth weighed 6lbs 10oz,5lbs 16 ozs(born at 36 weeks), and 7lbs 10oz and they're now 5 4 and 3 years old
I did not take any prenatal drugs or vitamins with either of my children and they turned out absolutely fine. Folic Acid was all the rage when I was pregnant, but I did not take it. It's too late for you to have prenatal vitamins, so just try and stay healthy now and your doc will advise you if you are lacking in anything. Worrying unnecessarily will do you more harm than missing out on your prenatals! So enjoy this time and good luck. Vitamin B6 - pregnancy-info.net:: Anyone taking B6 with their prenatal vitamins? I only took a total of 20 prenatal vitamins during my pregnancy and I really dont think they are for the baby they are more based for you and your health. My baby is very healthy and so was I so if you start on vitamins now its your own choice.
It's just a precaution, but if you're eating healthily and not smoking, drinking etc.... then don't be worried. Back before they existed, women still gave birth to healthy babies! I think a lot of the reasoning for vitamins is because of our unhealthy eating habits these days (not that I should talk because before my son was born I was a very unhealthy eater). I was too sick to take my prenatals though... sometimes could get the Flinstone vitamins down, but that was about it. My son's 100% perfect and healthy. Next time around I'm definitely going to eat better though. Just drink lots of water, stay away from junk food, and stuff yourself with veggies and good protein! i would start taking them as soon as possible, the baby sucks you dry of your nutrients like calcium and iron which are very important for the development of your baby
I found out I was pregnant at 11wks and didnt know.Doctor just said start taking prenatals and everything is fine so far.Good luck
go to a pharmacy and you can get some vitamins and folic acid. try calling a nurse line and seeing if they can tell you some to get, that way your baby is getting something tell you see the doc.
Congrats on your pregnancy! I didn't take prenatals as regularly as prescribed during my first pregnancy. I was sick during the first 4 months and rarely took them. Then after wards it was difficult to remember to take them (pregnant brain). My son just turned 3. He is chatty (not overly) and intelligent. He amazes me all the time. He is not hyper active and he is very well behaved. (He even makes his bed every morning before coming out to find us.) The prenatals are important for their development-but remember, they are not important for his survival. And many babies without grew up to be perfect intelligence-look at Mozart, Einstein, and most Nobel Prize winners-too old for their mommies to have been prescribed the prenatals we have today. Just make sure you start taking them now. Good luck and congrats!
of course think of all those people that cant afford prenatal vitamins or live in countries that dont have then and they have perfectly healthy babies. The baby will strip your body of everything it need to grow you will be the one left without nourishment not your little one. Just start taking then now and make sure you are eating fruits , vegetables and meats and you will be perfectly fine! Good Luck
I agree with Rosie. I found out i was pregnant I was already at 2 1/2 months. I didn't take any vitamins at my first pregnancy and all went well. In my second pregnancy, I only started taking them when i was 1 month pregnant, and very often forgot to take them. So now, im at 3 months and I started them 2 weeks ago. My husband is making sure i take them everyday ( i forget about these things so easily). I am not worried about the pre-pregnancy months when i didnt take them because I have good eating habits. I eat lots of vegetable (ex of foods with a good dose of folic acid are: spinach, broccoli, peas, papaya, asparagus, chickpeas, oranges, lentils, whole wheat breads, enriched grains food like bread and cereals).
Stop worrying about this, you do not need the stress! Talk to your doctor at your next appointment and tell him/her your concerns. I am sure your doctor will tell you exactly the same as I did and other people here have told you: if you have good eating habits, not to worry!
you should start right away. and call the doctor and see what they think. Folic acid is crucial to a healthy development of baby, so hopefully you ate healthy.
i was about 10 weeks before i found out. what do you think they did before they had prenatal vitamins?
I forgot to take mine all the time. My baby was a very healthy 10lb, 5 ouncer. Things will be fine, I'm sure.
i haven't taken prenatal vitamins at all because it makes me very sick. like not morning sickness sick...i have very low blood pressure and the vitamins make it go crazy. my doctor is always all smiles and talking aout how perfect the baby is developing. all tests other then my blood pressure have come back completely normal. i wouldn't be too concerned. if you wish to start taking them now then go for it. it can only make the baby even more healthy. no worries unless you have bright red bleeding or unbareable cramping.
good luck<3
and congrats<3
I didn't realise I was pregnant until 13 weeks, and I missed the first trimester folic acid supplements you're supposed to take. Luckily, I eat a healthy diet high in natural sources of folic acid and other vitamins needed for a healthy pregnancy. As long as you eat well, you should be fine.
I started taking them with my first son but I have a low tolerance to iron and was unable to continue taking them because they made me sick. Now with my second son, we didn't find out until I was 25 weeks pregnant and I can't take them again because of the iron. My baby is perfectly healthy. Just make sure your diet is a healthier one with lots of green veggies. Try taking flinstone if you are unsure of what to do until you are able to go to the doctor.
The prenatal vitamins are not for the baby-they are for you. The reason you need them is because the baby takes all of your nutrients, so not taking the pre-natals generally will make you very tired and weak.
PS-you don't need to wait for your doctor to start taking them. Walmart sells them over the counter
I have three healthy kids. I never took prenatal vitamins. They really didn't agree with my stomach. They made me feel nauseous and constipated. I just made sure that I drank milk and ate plenty of fruits and veggies. If you are really worried, you can take any over the counter multi vitamin until you get to the doctor. Don't worry, you will be fine. Good Luck.
I didn't take them with my first baby, except one day, that made me throw up and I was a teen in college, didn't use my head. She is healthy, and creative, high iq, but perhaps not as bright as my other children, who did have me taking prenatals. Two of the three boys I've had aren't as healthy as one mght hope; they have asthma. Those same two boys are the smartest though. The other boy is like his sister. Oddly enough. So I think it does something besides help with health.
The pills are for the mother to remain healthy while baby eats her nutrients. It's for you, not baby.
