If the throttle pedal is pressed further down more air will be pulled into the engine and more fuel will be delivered. ECU will keep your engine safe from knocks which are destructive to it by delaying the ignition timing. All these aspects of the ECU are the things you will need to change if you want to change the power of the car or its performance and when doing this you will always need to think about the balance of what you are doing.
