Sometimes we need higher speed and more power is required but at the end everything comes down to one thing – how the car to handle better the fuel keeping in account all the conditions that are involved.

I will now move the topic a bit to something that you should know when deciding about buying new ECU upgrades or any other kind of car chips that may help you for example put some more power into play.
When you browse around the web or in some seller’s advertisements you may see many things like “more power with just a simple chip swap” or “new ECU upgrades for more power”. The problem with this information is that it is most likely not true. Usually hot chips are used for more power and they could put up to 10% more power to your car but also could put exactly 0% or even add some problems to your car like pinging. Pinging happens because of the heated cylinders and like this an ignition could happen even when the piston is still going up. This is not the time when you would want that piston pushed back down but it will most likely happen anyway.
You can reduce the risk of pinging by using higher octane petrol but this will not solve the problem entirely and to give more money when you can save them don’t sound like a good idea at all.
If you replace some of your car’s components you will really need to change the build-in computer but one good solution could be not to change it entirely but only to reprogram it for your new needs.
Usually to chip a non turbo car is just not a good idea. Engine needs air and if you don’t change that air flow it is not possible for you to add real power. The chip may control the ignition timing too but that will probably not make a big difference for you.
To chip a turbo car is something different. You really could gain more power by reprogramming but keep in mind that manufacturers didn’t made it that way. Usually there is a reason for that and in many cases that reason is simply – reliability. For you this will mean that you need to know exactly what you are doing and how your changes will affect the car. Usually the more power you gain the less reliable your car will be and there is a fine line how far you should go with this.
We mentioned ECU many times and now I will tell you about what that is. ECU means engine control unit and it is the part of the car that is controlling every aspect of its behavior. This means the fuel injection, the ignition timing, variable valve timing and others.
The work of the ECU could be easily described with examples. Let’s say that the engine is not warm yet. In this case the ECU will provide more fuel in order for it to warm up even when more fuel is not really required. If the throttle pedal is pressed further down more air will be pulled into the engine and more fuel will be delivered. ECU will keep your engine safe from knocks which are destructive to it by delaying the ignition timing. All these aspects of the ECU are the things you will need to change if you want to change the power of the car or its performance and when doing this you will always need to think about the balance of what you are doing.
